Dinner with the Dean is a passion project started by me, Shanique Clement as an educational consulting firm in 2015 that specializes in providing instructional coaching and designing school culture initiatives and systems for charter organizations. I’ve been an educator for 20+ years and have filled every educational role imaginable. I was a classroom teacher for 7 years with the New York City Department of Education, teaching grades K-8 & 11th Grade U.S. History. I’ve been a grade team leader, instructional coach, educational grant writer, Dean of Special Services, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and now educational blogger/edupreneur. I am also the founder of Love Within the Words Black Women’s Empowerment Group. Of all the many roles I have held in education, the role of Dean of Students was the most rewarding. It gave me the opportunity to build relationships with scholars and families that truly changed my perspective and career as an educator for the better. It has been an honor and a privilege to work in marginalized communities and to learn and grow as an educator along side those most in need.

I started this blog in 2020 as a way to share my pedagogical journey as a black woman in academia and to support and uplift marginalized voices in education. My desire is to share the best practices and perspectives that I have  learned over my long career in education to ensure that children in disadvantaged communities receive the highest quality education possible.

I’m here to spill all my knowledge and expertise out onto the posts in the hopes that all can enjoy, learn, and be inspired. All are welcome to share, learn, and grow with me. With my help, you’ll be able to get the tools you need to empower your scholars and staff in a meaningful way.

Mission of Dinner With The Dean

The mission of Dinner with the Dean is to hold space for, uplift, amplify, and empower marginalized voices in education. It serves to create equitable realities and safer spaces for educators  and children in marginalized communities and  in the world of academia whose voices and stories are often lost and untold.

Vision of Dinner With The Dean

The vision of Dinner With the Dean is to empower educators of color and educators of children of color,  to develop the skills that will support them in being educators and schools that  dismantle white supremacy, provide a rigorous high quality education, cultivate life-long learners, support in the development of a strong sense of self, affirm the cultural identities of marginalized peoples in education, and to serve as vehicles of change in the impoverished communities that they serve.
